RelaxingCouple

The holidays are just about over and you’re finally through with all the stress of finding the perfect gifts, planning family get-togethers and baking what seems like a million cookies.

Now all you have left is…planning an entire wedding. That’s a big task, even without all the holiday stuff. That’s why we’ve compiled 10 great tips to rejuvenate your wedding planning spirit.

#10. Take a little time for yourself. Don’t jump back into planning right away. Relax a bit. Here are some ways to pamper yourself.  Get a massage. Soak in a hot bath of those lavender bath salts “Santa” put under the tree for you. We recommend Martha Stewart’s guide to pampering yourself for more ideas.

#9. Now…get back at it! Just kidding. Start slow, and make sure the first wedding planning tasks you tackle, even if they’re not the most pressing, are ones that you enjoy.

#8. Have a low-key party with your bridesmaids to reconnect and get everyone excited again! Plus, you can bounce wedding ideas off of them and get some good feedback.

#7. Get Inspired. Visit www.getmarried.com. It’s filled with beautiful photos, super stylish decoration ideas and so much more. You can even preview Get Married magazine online and request one for FREE. It’s a great resource for any bride.

#6. Spend some one-on-one time with Mom to talk about low-stress items and a few easy to-dos. She’ll be happy to help, and you’ll have that great feeling of checking a couple things off the list.

#5. Explore popular wedding blogs. Wedding blogs are great for inspiration and offer really good ideas and how-tos. A few of our favorites (besides Ann’s, of course!) are DIY Bride and Style Me Pretty.

#4. Talk with your soon-to-be husband about the things you’re most excited about, whether it’s the awesome band you lined up for the reception or the fabulous honeymoon you have planned afterward. Enjoy the anticipation together!

#3. Hit those after-Christmas sales! Nothing rejuvenates a Bargainista Bride more than a great deal, and stores are full of them after Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Just think about all the holiday décor and products that will be SUPER cheap and could look great as wedding reception decorations. Also, don’t forget to check out Ann’s Clearance Section for more great deals!

#2. Order some FREE samples of your favorite wedding invitations. You’ll be surprised at how much it helps to make a decision when you can hold and feel different examples. And, seeing the real thing is certain to kick your excitement into high gear!

#1. Write your wedding vows, even if that’s not a part of the plan. It’s exhilarating and refreshing to write down on paper how you feel about the person you love. Even if you never use them, you can’t help but be excited after pouring your heart out on paper. And when you’re feeling frazzled, they’ll be right there to remind you exactly why you’re planning this beautiful wedding.

Q&A with Ann’s Bridal Bargains

Question: Should my save-the-date match my wedding theme?

Answer: That’s totally up to you!

Truly, it is. Since there are so many fantastic save-the-date designs available, you may or may not want to limit yourself to one that coordinates with your wedding theme.

Here are a few things to think about when making your decision.

The formality of your wedding.

If you are planning a formal or very traditional wedding, you should choose a save-the-date that reflects that style. It doesn’t have to be equally as formal, but keep it classy. The Simply Smooth save-the-date is a great example of an elegant, inexpensive save-the-date. Also check out Ann’s photo save-the-dates. Photo save-the-dates are a trendy choice that will coordinate well with most wedding styles.

For the destination wedding.

There are some really fun save-the-dates available for destination weddings. You’ll find a variety of tropical designs, Vegas designs and traveling designs with passports and even paper airplanes! Invitations by Dawn is an excellent wedding retailer for themed wedding products, including save-the-dates.

The season in which you’re sending the save-the-date.

Unlike wedding invitations, save-the-dates are often themed around the season you send them, not when the wedding is taking place. (Money-Saving Tip: Consider combining your save-the-date with your annual holiday card. Photo holiday cards work beautifully as save-the-date cards. Check out www.peartreegreetings.com.)

Your personality as a couple.

These days, it’s all about your personalities! What’s your style as a couple? With so many designs to choose from, you’re bound to find a save-the-date that reflects who you are.

And, of course, your budget.

Affordable save-the-dates are pretty easy to come by. Watch for our Postcard Save the Dates which are coming soon!  They’re cute, simple and cost effective since no envelope is needed and the postage rate is lower. But really, at Ann’s, every save-the-date is affordable. Just shop around and find which one suits your style best!

Wedding Planning Checklist: Section 3:  Part 3

Before you begin planning your honeymoon, take a look at our tips for traveling cheap.

Honeymoon

Photography by Jim Kennedy Photographers via GetMarried.com

1. Start researching your honeymoon trip 9-12 months ahead of time. Go ahead and make a purchase if you find a great deal, but many travel agents recommend really looking at prices about two months in advance. Check prices every day or two. When the price drops to a reasonable amount, go for it.

2. Always shop around! Check prices with two or three different travel agents or travel websites.

3. Ask your travel agent about off-season rates. Many popular destinations are much cheaper right after peak-season. Plus, you’ll avoid the crowds and still enjoy good weather.

4. Check out your credit card’s travel benefits, or shop around for other credit cards that have better benefits. (Psst…use credit cards on vacations rather than check cards. They offer more security and are much easier to deal with in cases of theft or wrongful charges).

5. Join the frequent flyer club even if you don’t fly much. It doesn’t cost anything to join and you may eventually see some benefits.

6. Stay over a Saturday night for lowest air fairs and hotel rates.

7. Deciding between driving and flying? Check out www.costtodrive.com to see which is the better deal. (Hey…also check the Amtrak. Amtrak offers cross-country and regional train packages.)

8. Check if you receive discounts at certain airlines or hotels through your employer. If you’re an AAA member or a member of an alumni association, take advantage of those discounts as well.

9. Announce to the world you’re honeymooners! You may just get special treatment such as discounts or upgrades (you deserve it!).

10. Avoid hotel restaurants. They’re expensive. Also, stock your own mini bar. Hotels charge large fees for mini bar items such as alcohol and snacks.

Happy honeymoon planning from Ann’s Bridal Bargains where you will find discount wedding invitations and accessories!

Planning a winter or holiday themed wedding? Have we got some wedding favors for you! (You’ll find what you need for these great favors on Ann’s and also one of our favorite partners, Invitations by Dawn.)

ABB_HolidayWeddingFavorsWeb

1. Like peppermints? Like sugar cookies? You’ll LOVE these!

Peppermint cookies are adorable, especially when you use clear cellophane bags to wrap them like individual candies. Just cut off the ends of the bags and tie each end with satin ribbon. Ann’s will be adding additional ribbon colors soon.  Check out The Picky Apple for an excellent recipe and display.

2. The Ornament Creation Station

Set up a table at your wedding reception with clear, fillable Christmas ornaments. Clear ornaments are often glass, so if you plan on children participating you may want to search for plastic ornaments. Set up bowls of decorations for filling the ornaments. Decorations might include: glitter (with funnels), fake snow, snowflake confetti, iridescent shredded paper, ribbon, beads, colored sand, etc.

3. Cookies and milk seem to do the trick (minus the milk, maybe).

Place a decorated sugar cookie in translucent envelopes tied closed with satin ribbon for a touch of color.

4. Wrap Clear Glass Votives with holiday ribbon or personalized Votive Wraps.

Or you can easily paint votives in holiday colors with glass paint from your local hobby store. Bold stripes of red and green will look beautiful, especially when lit with White Votive Candles.

5. Bring the charm of silver bells into your wedding!

Incorporate Silver or Gold Bell Place Card Holders into your decoration. Create small signs that say “Joy,” “Peace,” “Love,” and any other holiday words you find meaningful, to place in the holders and set them at each reception table. BONUS: guests get to ring the bell when they want to see you kiss!

6. Oh, favor tree! Oh, favor tree!

Place favor trees adorned with Christmas ornaments throughout your reception and encourage guests to take an ornament with them as they leave.

7. Send guests into the winter night with a little warmth!

Fill cellophane bags with a candle, personalized matches and some sparkling tinsel for them to enjoy later. Top the bags with favor cards printed with, “Thank you for joining us on this special day. Your love and support is truly heartwarming.”

8. What’s a winter wedding without a little glamour?

Add white feather accents or rhinestone accents to everything from bouquets and decorative floral arrangements to favor boxes and reception table centerpieces.

9. What a beauty!

Christmas ornaments are naturally a beautiful choice for winter wedding favors, but topping them off with Snowflake Favor Tags makes them absolutely perfect.

10. Clearly a great choice!

Fill Clear Favor Boxes with peppermint candy for a fun and festive treat. Try stacking them into a 3-Dimensional tree near the reception entrance. Place a scrap booked sign next to the tree that says “It was sweet of you to join us. Let us thank you with a treat that’s just as sweet as you.”

Other great favor box fillers include gumdrops for fabulous color or peanut brittle for a traditional Christmas treat. Top them off with Clear Thank You Favor Tags!

Last Thursday we introduced you to our $500 Shopping Spree winner, Alyssa, and her mother, Elaine, who signed her up. Now we’d like to share with you a few more details about the happy couple and their wedding plans.

Alyssa and Shaun

Alyssa and Shawn on vacation at Glen Ellis Falls in New Hampshire. Photo taken by Alyssa’s mother.

Alyssa and Shaun are high school sweethearts and have been together for four years. They are big fans of camping, eating out and long drives. While Alyssa enjoys shopping (don’t we all!) and spending time with family, her fiancé enjoys John Deer tractors and many outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing.

The wedding ceremony and reception will take place in July of 2011 at Promises to Keep in Derry, New Hampshire. Promises to Keep is a beautiful facility with stunning gardens creating the backdrop for Alyssa and Shaun’s romantic event. We imagine there will be some fantastic photo ops!

Alyssa and Shaun plan to make their wedding unique in a few different ways, including having the flower girl and ring bearer drive down the aisle on a battery powered John Deer! Alyssa also plans on providing a luscious candy bar, which is a big favorite here at Ann’s for not only being tasty, but it’s also a super cute addition to any wedding reception look.

Alyssa and her mother intend to buy everything that is left for the ceremony and reception with the $500 from Ann’s.

“My mom has a serious rare disease and has been struggling to buy everything for our perfect day. Thanks to Ann’s Bridal Bargains, we now can buy all the things we need leaving my mom’s mind at rest,” says Alyssa. “Thank you, Ann’s Bridal Bargains.”

Thank you, Alyssa. We’re happy to be a part of your special day, and we wish you and your fiancé a long and wonderful life together!

Wedding Planning Checklist

6 Months Before: Section 3: Part 2

Engagement Photo
Announcing your engagement in local newspapers may seem like an old-fashioned tradition, but it’s actually one of the best ways to share your news with friends, family and people in the community. You can even send out the link to your engagement announcement since most newspapers post them online.  Photograph via Heather Hagge of Hagge Photography.

Wondering how it works? Here’s what you do:

Engagement announcements usually run two to three months before the wedding date so start contacting newspapers 4-6 months prior to your wedding.

Call or email the local newspapers in your hometown and your fiancé’s hometown to find out what each paper’s submission requirements are. If your parents are no longer living in your hometown, contact the newspapers in their current communities.

Most newspapers will send you a form to fill out with all the necessary details, which you will fill out and return and they will write the announcement for you. If you would like to write your own, simply ask. They may have a few guidelines for you to follow. If you do write your own, here’s an example of a standard wedding announcement for reference.

“Samantha and Alex Thompson of Grand Rapids, MN are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Katie Anne, to Sean George Anderson, son of Greta and Robert Anderson of Fridley, MN.

Katie is a graduate of Mankato West High School and the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She also holds a Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota, Twins Cities. She is employed as a financial analyst in Minneapolis, MN.
Sean is a graduate of Fridley High School and served in the U.S. Army prior to his current position at the Minneapolis Police Department.

Sean and Katie will be married on September 23, 2011.”

Traditionally, announcements are written as though the bride’s parents are announcing the engagement. You may modify the wording as needed.

Most newspaper engagement announcements are free and many will allow you to include a photo with your submission, but there may be a scanning fee for putting the photo online.
