Your heart’s pounding, your skin is crawling, your palms are sweating…another scary Halloween? Nope. Just everyday wedding planning. It’s absolutely frightful how stressed brides-to-be can get when planning a wedding.

Here are the top 5 stressors for brides and how to beat them:

We won’t have enough money…

You’re on a budget, but the last thing you want is for lack of money to get in the way of your perfect wedding day. First of all, it won’t. You can throw a great party with limited means. Check out some budget tools to help you plan and ease your mind. Visit www.GetMarried.com for some great options.

We won’t have a great turnout…

A wedding is all about gathering with your family and dearest friends, and the bride-to-be has every right to worry about who will be able to make it. Might we suggest…save the dates! Save the dates aren’t just cute cards you send to tell everyone you’re getting married with your photo on it, they’re meant to allow the guests to reserve your wedding day well in advance.

What if it rains on our outdoor wedding…

Always have a backup plan. No matter how many times you check the Farmer’s Almanac, you will not be able to predict or control the weather. There’s no use fretting about it. Choose a backup plan that you’re equally happy with and you’ll have no reason to gain a single gray hair over this potential threat.

I’ll trip or fall on my way to the altar…

All we can say is wear shoes you’re comfortable walking in. Even if you have to purchase a pair of white ballet slippers to walk down that aisle, go for it. If you have a floor-length dress, no one will know the difference. Rest assured that even though you’ll feel like you’re walking on air as you float toward your honey, you’ll have two feet planted firmly on the ground.

I’ll mess up my lines…

I was the maid of honor in my best friend’s wedding a few years ago. She was quite nervous about speaking in front of all her friends and family, and as they said their vows to each other, she said “I, Michael, take thee, Jennifer,…oh wait…” Yep, she got her own name wrong. But everyone had a quick laugh, including her, and the service was still absolutely lovely. Moral of the story: your wedding will be wonderful, even if you mess up a few words.

No matter what happens as you plan your wedding, you can always look forward to that highly anticipated honeymoon. And, just in case you find yourself stressing about packing too much for your vacation, check out our 10 Helpful Tips on Packing Light for Your Honeymoon.

Wedding Planning Checklist: Section 5: Part 4

It’s three months before the wedding, and everything is falling into place. Now is the time to confirm your honeymoon reservations and make sure you have passports, visas, etc. And, of course, you have to tackle packing at some point.

Packing for your honeymoon must be tailored to fit your destination, but here are 10 helpful tips for packing light and being organized — regardless of where you’re vacationing:

1. Packing Light. Pack only what you need for clothing (many couples tend to over-pack, causing unnecessary expense). Choose clothes that mix and match. Pack a swimming suit and one formal outfit. Purchase an outfit or two at your honeymoon location as a fun memento.

2. Roll or Lay Flat — Don’t Fold. Folded clothes can take up more room in your luggage. Try rolling clothes or lying them flat to take up less space.

3. Don’t Pack Duplicate Items. Pack your bags at the same time as your spouse/spouse-to-be if possible. Make sure not to pack duplicate items, such as contact solution, toothpaste, sunscreen and other toiletries.

4. Rely on the Hotel’s Complementary Benefits. Find out what your hotel provides FREE with each room (shampoo, conditioner, a hair dryer and an alarm clock are standard). These items, and any others your hotel may provide, don’t need to be packed.

5. Pay Attention to the Weather. Check the weather forecast in the area you are visiting. Pack clothes according to the most up-to-date predictions. Consider temperature variations, as well. Some locations are hot during the day, but cool down quite a bit in the evening.

6. Be Romantic. Don’t let packing light get in the way of romance. Pack a small gift to surprise your spouse. Also, bring along honeymoon gear, like lingerie, of course, and some fun items like “Just Married” T-shirts.

7. Capture Memories. Pack your camera and/or camcorder along with chargers and extra batteries. Also, bring along plastic, re-sealable bags to store mementos such as sand and seashells. They can also prove handy for packing damp swimming suits or keeping your camera safe from water damage. Bring a small journal, too. There will be lots of moments and stories you’ll want to write down so you can remember everything in detail later.

8. Keep “Must-Haves” in Your Carry-on Bag. Airline tickets, identification (driver’s license, passport, visas), traveler’s checks, credit cards, cash, prescription medications, contraceptives and important phone numbers should be packed in one of your carry-on bags.

9. Remember to Pack the Important Extras! An extra pair of glasses or contacts, asthma inhaler, box of allergy medication, camera/camcorder battery and other important extras can help make you more comfortable and your honeymoon vacation run more smoothly.

10. Include a Collapsible Bag. You’ll want an extra bag for your trip home to fill with souvenirs or dirty laundry — this bag will provide the additional space. You may want to ship some souvenirs home separately if space is still tight.

Of course, if you’re packing for a destination wedding, things will be a bit different. Consider finding some inexpensive wedding favors that pack easily. We suggest favor boxes or favor bags. Fill them with whatever treats or mementos you find at your special destination.

I love adding personalized napkins to my tables because they help add a splash of color, they’re inexpensive and you can personalize them for FREE.

The fall napkin colors I’ve selected are Dark Sage, Mocha, Orange, Sunflower, Ecru and Black. Choose any color napkin and add your design cut, single initial plus 2 lines of personalization or just the personalization. Adding fun verses that fit the event has become very popular.

If you’re looking for cheap party decorations, napkins are an inexpensive extra that make a BIG impact. Use them at weddings, parties or make unique, personal gifts out of them. You’d be surprised at the great gift ideas you’ll come up with.

Tip: Order a bunch of napkins in white with just your single initial (last-name initial) in gold or silver foil. These are my “go-to” napkins when I have guests drop by last minute.

A big congratulations goes out to Kim! She signed up to become a member of Ann’s in September and is the lucky winner of a $500 Ann’s Shopping Spree!

Kim and her fiancé, Howard, met in college, and years later he found her on MySpace, exchanged numbers and the rest is history. What’s more fabulous than the chase? Oh, right. The proposal! On Christmas Day, he gave Kim a build-a-bear that had a heart pillow on the front and a ring on the back.  When she opened the box, Howard asked her to push the heart and it said to look on the back of the heart – and there was the sparkler! He got down on his knees, professed his love and said she was his best friend, and asked her to marry him. How sweet!

Now they are in the midst of planning a beautiful summer wedding in Indiana with an Endless Love theme in lavender, dark purple and charcoal gray.

Planning the perfect wedding on a budget is tough, and Kim has a piece of advice for other budget-savvy brides, “Sunday weddings are always cheaper!”

Well, Kim – here’s to saving a ton of money on wedding invitations and accessories, and spending that $500 on what’s most important to you. Have a blast with this shopping spree on us!

Congratulations!

During the Victorian era, high-class citizens adapted the monogram for personal use as a symbol of their place in society. Lucky for us, everyone has free reign over monograms today!

A unique mixture of identity and design, monograms become an elegant and sophisticated motif that can bring any wedding to a new height in style. Ann’s offers a beautiful selection of traditional monogram wedding invitations, but we also offer single-initial monograms on a wide range of items, many of which can be used in the home after the wedding. Just leave the wedding date off, and it becomes timeless.

Consider adding your monogram to these popular items. It’s easy and affordable!

• Thank you notes
• Napkins
• Favor or Envelope Seals
• Cupcake and Cake Boxes
• Coasters
• Matches
Place Cards

How will you use monograms at your wedding?

Back in April, people everywhere were glued to the royal wedding. It was a modern-day fairytale and the perfect example of the romance and elegance behind tradition. The royal wedding left no question as to why tradition has become the new trend!

What’s old is new. What’s vintage is modern. Influences from the 20s, 30s and 40s are emerging in today’s wedding fashion, adding beautiful textures and ornate details. A revival of pearls, veils, gloves, brooches and sleeved wedding dresses is making its way through the wedding world. And with this resurgence of old-time fashion comes the beautiful, and always tasteful, monogram.

Historically, a monogram was used as a royal signature. The word can be traced back to the Greek words “mono” (sole) and “gram” (letter). Together they are defined as two or more letters interwoven, an abbreviation of a name. Your monogram is unique to the two of you; it’s your insignia. There is not better place to display your insignia than custom monogram wedding invitations.

Allow your monogram to become a part of your entire wedding! At Ann’s, you can add a single-initial monogram as a design cut to create monogram wedding invitations. You can also add a single-initial monogram to wedding favors and wedding napkins, both of which will look amazing as personalized touches throughout your wedding.

Get creative when decorating your home for Fall and Halloween with unique pumpkin decorations. We’ve got four ideas for you to try!  (Perfect for a harvest or fall wedding theme too.)

1. Find grommets at your local hobby store and simply push them into the outside of your pumpkins.

2. Choose from a variety of craft wires at the hobby store and create spirals, which push easily into pumpkins.

3. Drill holes with a power drill all around the pumpkin. This creates a spooky effect when lit with a candle at night.

4. Use a linoleum cutter to create fun grid patterns along the outside of your pumpkin.

We used both real and artificial pumpkins. Can you tell the difference? Reusing the artificial pumpkins year after year is a helpful timesaver. Also, I love mixing traditional orange pumpkins with white “ghost” pumpkins and all kinds of gourds. Consider using a collage of pumpkins and gourds as inexpensive wedding decorations if you’re having a fall wedding. They’re easy, cheap and perfect for the season!

Shop our other wedding reception decorations to add the finishing touches.

Tip: Growing your own pumpkins? Try deeply scratching a name or spooky saying into the pumpkin as it is on the vine. A sharp pointed tool like a linoleum cutter works best. The pumpkin will scar over leaving your words or name.
