We received more than 100 comments filled with fantastic budget-savvy advice for wedding planning, and it was really difficult to narrow it down to three winners. If you haven’t read all the great advice, you’re in for a treat! These tips are bound to save you a few bucks so you can splurge on other things.

Congratulations to…

#1. Cynthia L.

“I have been finding wedding vendors and great wedding bargains through charity events and online auctions. I bought a brand new designer wedding gown at a great price from the Brides Against Breast Cancer Tour of Gowns when it came to my city in October. I got a steal on a photographer, DJ, wedding planner, and invitations from the Wish Upon a Wedding online auction which is a non-profit wish granting organization providing weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness. You can also find some great wedding-related items on “Bidding for Good” online charity auctions in your local community. I recently got a great deal bidding on a wedding hair/makeup package from a local community childcare center auction! Not only do you save a lot of money, but the money you do spend will go to some great causes so you feel really good about it!”

#2. Erin G.

“My best piece of advice: join forces with other brides if you can. A friend and I are both having our weddings next winter, but a few months apart. So far, we’ve used the “lure” of booking two weddings to get reduced rates on DJ, limo, and a florist. If you don’t know anyone getting married, try finding someone online on Facebook or a blog site. It is totally worth it if you can group price!”

#3. Emily

“I found that NOT mentioning the word “wedding” made a HUGE difference in the price of things! A lot of vendors try and capitalize on weddings, so I always told people that we were just planning a “party” whenever we could. Our photographer, florist, and DJ obviously know that we’re planning a wedding, but our linen rental people, for example, think we’re just having a really big party. I priced them out twice. When I called to get a quote for a “wedding reception,” the cost of our linens was THREE TIMES AS MUCH as when I got a quote for a “get-together.” So whenever you can, leave out the word wedding. Along the same lines, look in places that aren’t geared towards brides whenever you can. A “wedding photographer” is going to cost you a ton of money. A photojournalist is used to capture events without intruding as much as possible and they’re usually much less expensive. Our photographer has plenty of wedding experience, but it’s not his only income, so we’re getting high-quality work for a fraction of the cost.”

That’s not all! Here are some great runners-up we have to mention:

First, Kathryn B. suggested to “pay for everything with a credit card. By law your credit card purchases are protected so if a vendor goes out of business after your deposit and before your big day, you can get your money back.“ GREAT protection advice!

Kelli reminds us, “don’t stretch your budget to the end of its life without including the gratuity you’ll be giving people for their services or the service charges and taxes that aren’t included in that already-pushing-it price.”

Kendra shared a great site where brides can buy gently used and/or never used items from other brides: http://ruffledblog.com/recycle-your-wedding/browse-listings/. She also says, “DIY, DIY, DIY!”

And, finally, Grace D. set up a savings account that will withdraw a set amount directly from her checking account every time she gets paid, AND gets interest! She says, “it really helped my budget, and every penny coming out my account goes for something for the wedding.”

Great advice, everybody! Need more tips? Read all the budget-savvy advice.

Courtney and her fiancé, Matt! Congratulations!

Now the couple can have fun shopping for wedding invitations and stationery, as well as other wedding accessories, without worrying about their budget.

Courtney and Matt met at Iowa State University when their Greek houses were paired together during Greek Week freshman year. They’ve been together now for more than three and a half years.

November 2011 Ann's Bridal Bargains Shopping Spree Winners

The proposal story is heart melting! At the time, the couple lived near a river where Matt enjoys fishing. He called her outside, to show off his catch she assumed, and pointed to a message in a bottle! Courtney, thinking this message randomly washed up on shore, was intrigued and began to read the message inside. The letter was written like an old-time fairy tale about a prince and princess, but it touched on different things the couple had done together. At the end, the prince wanted to spend the rest of his life with the princess, and then Matt proceeded to get down on one knee and ask her to marry him. Awww…love it!

The couple will marry in November of 2012 in the Quad Cities in Iowa. Pink and grey are their wedding colors. So far, they have made just a few wedding plans, but Courtney has already learned a few things she’d like to share with other brides.

  1. Don’t wait too long to get the dress. Then you’ll have time to order, send it back if need be and alter it. Give yourself plenty of time.
  2. Meet with different photographers. Courtney found that she loved pictures from one, but the photographer turned out to be rude. Instead, they selected another that had a whole wedding-date package, engagement session and a CD with copyrights. Now the couple can buy the photos they want via the CD rather than the photographer’s prints.
  3. Take cake baker suggestions from friends and family, or from your own experience, to be sure you’ll be happy with the result and the price tag.
  4. Find a decorator! Courtney thinks it’s so worth it for sake of sanity. She found someone to take care of tablecloths, all the flowers at the church, centerpieces, bouquets and boutonnieres. They’ll set it all up and come back to pick it all up the next day.

Congratulations, Courtney and Matt. Happy Shopping!

A big congrats goes out to our newest Shopping Spree Winner…Glenda! She’ll have tons of fun spending $500 at AnnsBridalBargains.com on anything from save the dates and wedding invitations to accessories and favors.

But first, you have to hear the story behind their courtship and proposal! Glenda and Andy have known each other since they were kids. They grew up in the same small town, went to church together and occasionally spent time with the same friends. They never dated and went their separate ways to college. After 15 years, both returned home, the stars aligned and the dating began. He won her heart treating her like a princess — helping her study, taking care of her when she was sick and bringing her daisies simply because they’re her favorite. Being a good Christian man was the icing on top (something she always wanted).

Now, for the proposal story! This is good.

While Andy wanted Glenda to pick out her ring, he also wanted a proper proposal. Andy first attempted to embarrass her on the Jumbotron at her favorite team’s game, the Arkansas Razorbacks. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the cards. He then worked with the local radio station, which was having a game party at a local restaurant in Little Rock. The radio DJ jumped on the bar at halftime to have some fun with trivia, but threw in an extra trivia question at the end  — “Does anyone have a birthday on October 13?”  Glenda shyly raised her hand. The DJ then asked her to come to the bar so he could introduce her to the crowd. He gave her a huge bouquet of heart-shaped balloons, a restaurant glass and had the bar sing happy birthday. After all that embarrassment, she began to walk back to her seat and the DJ stopped her just in time to see Andy walking around the corner carrying a huge bouquet of flowers. The DJ introduced Andy as Glenda’s fiancé, and Glenda corrected him saying, “He’s not my fiancé yet.” Then, Andy got down on one knee and said, “I will be if you marry me.” Naturally the girl said YES!

And the dream wedding…Island Sunset

Glenda has been dreaming of a wedding on the beach at sunset, and Andy is delivering! The lovely couple will get married in the Cayman Islands the day after Thanksgiving, on the beach, at sunset. And while the couple will miss the biggest Razorbacks game of the year, I’d say a wedding on the beach is way better. Plus, a fabulous reception is planned for the return home.

Here’s to a few dreams come true! Congratulations, Glenda and Andy!

A big congratulations goes out to Kim! She signed up to become a member of Ann’s in September and is the lucky winner of a $500 Ann’s Shopping Spree!

Kim and her fiancé, Howard, met in college, and years later he found her on MySpace, exchanged numbers and the rest is history. What’s more fabulous than the chase? Oh, right. The proposal! On Christmas Day, he gave Kim a build-a-bear that had a heart pillow on the front and a ring on the back.  When she opened the box, Howard asked her to push the heart and it said to look on the back of the heart – and there was the sparkler! He got down on his knees, professed his love and said she was his best friend, and asked her to marry him. How sweet!

Now they are in the midst of planning a beautiful summer wedding in Indiana with an Endless Love theme in lavender, dark purple and charcoal gray.

Planning the perfect wedding on a budget is tough, and Kim has a piece of advice for other budget-savvy brides, “Sunday weddings are always cheaper!”

Well, Kim – here’s to saving a ton of money on wedding invitations and accessories, and spending that $500 on what’s most important to you. Have a blast with this shopping spree on us!

Congratulations!

Sofia and her fiancé, Jongho, are just starting to plan a beautiful, 2012 winter wonderland wedding in crystal white and blue. The couple met each other at a party hosted by one of Sofia’s friends, and Jongho proposed at their favorite restaurant. Awww…

While the couple is just getting their feet wet wedding planning, they are determined to have fun and have vowed not to let it stress them out. Sofia adds, “Ask friends and family for referrals and don’t be shy to ask for help when you feel overwhelmed.” Great money and stress saving tip!

Congrats to the happy couple, and here’s to creating a beautiful, budget-savvy winter wonderland wedding!

Congratulations to Stevie, and her fiancé Nik!  They won a $500 Shopping Spree from Ann’s Bridal Bargains by signing up to become a member in July.  Stevie was selected by random.org out of the total number of entrants last month, and can spend her $500 on ANYTHING at AnnsBridalBargains.com.  From save the dates, to wedding invitations, to wedding accessories, and even bridal party gifts, and keepsakes.

Nik and Stevie have a very contemporary story about how they met – on Facebook through mutual friends!  Love it.  But what’s even better, is the proposal story…

They had spent the day at a folk music festival watching Nik’s favorite band, and he later pulled Stevie aside and started to ask the big question.  Right in the middle of it he says, “There’s too much trash around here”, and walks away – leaving Stevie a bit dumbfounded.  Later that evening they ventured to a bamboo forest that he loved, but she had never seen before, and attempted again.  Down on one knee and about to pop the question, a shirtless guy and his dog walk right in between then and stops to yell – “This place is awesome! I forgot this was here!”  Attempt #2 – failed.  Finally, while having fun and goofing around trying to cheer up the groom-to-be, he grabbed and kissed her …and there went the ring out of his hand and down to the lake!  But, as fate would have it, he dove for the ring and caught it before it the lake could swallow it and the third time was the charm.

Now the couple is excited to plan a spring, outdoor wedding at a park in South Carolina for a laid back, hippie picnic feel they so want, and are using the great outdoors to their advantage, saving tons of money on wedding decorations.  But this frugal couple found more ways to save!  The bride found a beautiful sundress for the cost of a t-shirt, are making a few decorations on their own to add to the beautiful outdoors, and are having friends and family be a part of the big day in the form of photography, catering, and even entertainment.  Their wedding colors, sage green and white, will lend themselves beautifully along with different wildflowers throughout.

Stevie’s tip to other brides on a budget – think outside the box.  “There are so many options to keep your wedding from being too ‘cookie cutter.”

Congrats to the happy couple – and here’s to having fun spending $500, and to a beautiful new life together.

Want to win a $500 shopping spree, too?  Just sign up at AnnsBridalBargains.com and become a member today.  Good luck!

Sheena met her fiancé, Ryan, through PlentyOfFish.com. A good friend made a profile for Sheena after moving away so they could keep in touch. Ryan messaged her and after about a year they met as friends and started dating shortly after. They’ve been together for four years now!

Sheena and Ryan plan on a traditional wedding in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri with a main wedding color of purple and an accent color that is yet to be decided. They’ll receive $500 to use anytime on anything site-wide at Ann’s Bridal Bargains, and it sounds like Ann’s is the perfect place for them to shop.

“I’m a nursing student, so I’m planning on a tight budget. You have no idea how much this means to me!” says Sheena.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who submitted wedding favor ideas for our Favor Challenge! We loved reading all of your ideas and were quite impressed with your creativity. It was tough, but we have narrowed it down to three winners that really inspired us.  We will be contacting you soon via email to notify you of your winnings!

Jen P – Autumn Apples

“We’re being married in the fall and I originally knew exactly what I wanted to do – fall-themed candy and/or caramel apples! That being said, I’ve been sort of scared away from it because it’s a bit of work to make sure they look great – I have perfected my technique, and done the taste test (my fav part!) but I was mostly concerned about packaging options, and how well they will keep during the reception. I thought that more people would do this for favors, but so far I haven’t seen any wedding sites selling a “kit” of any kind – maybe you guys should look into it!”

Shannon J – Sunflower Power

“We are getting married next July and our colors are sunbeam yellow and ivory. I want to go with a sunflower theme for the wedding but I am having a hard time finding favors for my theme. One idea that I had was to take wine glasses and fill them with yellow gel candle wax and cover with a sunflower shaped label with our names and wedding date. The label is the hardest part of this task.”

Sara P – Jammin’ Favors

“Our wedding theme/colors are champagne and lavender! I had the idea to buy Mason Jars and fill them with grapes and blueberries (just for decoration) and wrap champagne ribbon around the top. Then find a good recipe for homemade grape and blueberry jams and make labels for the tops of the jars. Our wedding is in March and I can remember as a child going to my grandparents’ house in the winter time and there basement being filled with all different types of fruits, vegetables and jams canned in Mason Jars. So it seemed very fitting to tie an old family tradition into our wedding.”

Ladies, our accessories expert and designer are working hard to find exactly what we need to fit your visions! We’ll post the final creations in early July, on the same day they’ll be available for purchase at Ann’sBridalBargains.com!
