Monograms are classic, beautiful and personal, which is why monogram wedding invitations are a popular choice for couples. There are a few etiquette rules to consider before choosing your monogram though.

Is it proper to use a monogram for informal wedding invitations?

Yes. Traditional monograms (just your initials) are commonly used for both formal and informal invitations. Informal monograms that use just the couple's first names are becoming more available also.

Can a monogram be used before the marriage?

Depends. If you decide on the traditional married monogram, then no. The married monogram is the bride's initial first, the last name initial larger in the middle and the groom's initial at the end.

The married monogram should not be used before the actual ceremony. Traditionally, the bride would use her monogram (first, last, middle) on anything being sent before the wedding (save-the-dates, invitations, bridal shower thank yous). You can choose to use your married monogram for anything at the reception or after, such as favors, napkins, toasting flutes, etc.

Many non-traditional monograms are fair game though because they usually consist of just the couple's first names. These types of monograms can be used at any time before and after the wedding.

Note: Consider designing your own monogram. Some invitation retailers allow couples to use their own designs on their invitations and other stationery.

Do your pocketbook a favor with affordable favors from Ann’s!

Bring out the savvy shopper in you with Ann’s money-saving tips for planning your wedding!

Here are lots of ways to cut costs on your dream wedding!

Just say when and where
The date and location for your wedding often results in the bulk of your costs. Follow a few of these tips and you’re sure to drastically reduce your spending.
• Choose a wedding date in the off-season (Nov-Apr). Lower off-season rates or special deals are often available. If possible, avoid dates near Valentine’s Day — flower prices skyrocket!
• Choose a date near the holidays, such as Christmas or Easter, to take advantage of the festive decorations.
• Choose any day but Saturday. Weekdays, Friday evenings and Sundays are often less expensive than Saturdays. If you do celebrate on a Saturday, try a morning or early afternoon ceremony.
• Choose an already decorated venue such as a garden or restaurant.
• Use the same site for the ceremony and reception.

Make it LOOK good
The wedding attire is one of the most important aspects of a wedding. Here are some things to consider when choosing your wedding-day threads:
• Choose a white bridesmaid dress instead of a bridal gown. Don’t feel like you’re compromising style to save a few dollars. If you find that simply perfect, white, silky smooth, A-line dress on the bridesmaid rack, no one will know the difference.
• Rent wedding attire. This inexpensive option still yields a beautiful wedding, and your wedding party doesn’t have to worry about having their ensemble hanging in their closets for years to come.

Eat, drink and be merry
Food and drinks will undoubtedly be one of your largest wedding costs. Here’s how to shave a few dollars off:
• Consider an alternative to the full evening meal. Cocktail parties, brunches, tea parties and lunch receptions are all less expensive than a full evening meal — not to mention the liquor bill will be considerably lower.
• Try a potluck as a fun way to involve guests in the wedding as well as provide an inexpensive and tasty meal for all.
• Don’t assume a buffet is a bargain. It can cost just as much to keep the buffet full as it does to serve a traditional meal.
• Use a small decorative cake for display and buy sheet cake to serve your guests. The cake will be just as delicious.

Floral aspirations
Flowers can take a huge chunk out of your wedding budget, so take a look at these useful ideas.
• Use flowers from the ceremony at the reception. Just be sure to ask someone to be in charge of moving them.
• Choose one type of flower, and save money on less arrangement time.
• Do your own flowers, but only if you are dedicated to this often daunting task.
• Choose flowers that are in season.

Money-saving ideas you’ll find through Ann’s
Print-your-own products are a great way to save money. Ann’s offers laser compatible invitations, programs, favor wrappers and favor cones for candy and treats.
• Save on postage costs by using Ann’s respond postcards rather than regular respond cards.
• Ann’s offers custom address printing on envelopes for any invitation order. This may not save you money, but it definitely saves you time, which is just as precious when planning a wedding.
• Order extra invitations right away for guests you might overlook. Ordering 25 additional invitations costs less with the original order than placing a new order.
• Take a look at our Seal 'n Send invitations. With seal 'n sends, you won’t need to purchase enclosure cards.
• Consider using Corner Copy. Corner copy is a unique way to save money. By having your reception wording printed on the corner of your invitation, you eliminate the need for a reception card. This saves you money and saves paper. Remember, corner copy can be anything you want from reception wording to notes for guests.

This and that
A few of our cost-saving tips simply didn’t fit into the sections above, but that doesn’t mean they’re not just as valuable. So here are some miscellaneous tips to keep in mind when you are looking to cut costs.
• Look to cosmetology schools for discounted hair and makeup appointments.
• Check out local culinary art schools for inexpensive yet fabulous cakes.
• Use a credit card with benefits for all wedding purchases, and build up frequent flyer miles for your honeymoon.
• Put some or all of your wedding savings into a 12-month CD. In one year, $5,000 will yield an extra $500!
• Hire a photographer for just the ceremony and early reception.

The Elements of Your Wedding Invitation Collection
Amy Kortuem

When you daydream about getting married — just admit it, we all do it — you daydream about picking the wedding party, the wedding colors, the dress and the perfect invitation. Little did you know that the invitation includes more than you ever dreamed of: save-the-dates, reception cards, response cards, thank you notes, informal notes, etc.

Seems a little overwhelming at first, but we’re here to explain what all the pieces of an invitation collection are for. Then you can decide the pieces you would like to include in your invitation.

Save-the-Date Announcements
Honestly, what did couples do before save-the-dates? These little guys are a lifesaver! Save-the-dates announce your wedding to guests up to a year or more in advance so they have ample time to plan for your big day, which helps ensure a great turnout. Save-the-date cards are available in a variety of designs. Send save-the-date cards to everyone on your guest list, but remember that everyone who receives a save-the-date card must also receive a wedding invitation. The cards should be mailed as soon as your wedding date is official (i.e., once you have finalized your ceremony and reception location bookings).

Wedding Invitations
Now friends and family are waiting in anticipation to see the wedding invitation you choose. Your invitation holds important information, like the date, time and place of your ceremony. Equally important, the invitation sets the tone for your entire celebration! So whether your theme is classic and traditional, bright and colorful or simply YOU, you can find an invitation to match the occasion! Invitations should be sent out at least six weeks before the ceremony. Quick tip: The quantity you order should reflect the number of mailings, not the number of guests.

Announcements
Even though you can’t possibly invite everyone to your wedding, you can let everyone share in the exciting news by sending out wedding announcements. Use the invitation you chose and print them with announcement wording, or select something entirely different. Ask someone to be in charge of mailing your announcements immediately after your ceremony, and let those special people you weren’t able to invite to the wedding know about the good news right away.

Envelopes
Envelopes — just for addressing and mailing your invitations, right? WRONG! That’s ok. Envelopes are often underestimated. Even envelopes can be an expression of your style and can coordinate with your theme and color scheme. Plain inner and outer envelopes are often available with invitation orders, but you can accent your invitations with a little something extra.
Lined Inner Envelopes — For an extra touch of flair, choose a lined inner envelope in a shade that matches your ink color and invitation design. Lined inner envelopes replace the plain inner envelopes included with invitations.
Printed Outer Envelopes — Since you are probably busy beyond belief, have your outer envelopes pre-printed with your return address in the same lettering style and ink color as your invitations! The small extra charge is worth the time you’ll save.

Quick tip: Be sure to order an extra 25 envelopes in case of addressing errors.

Enclosures
Enclosure cards usually refer to five different things: reception card, response card, map/direction card, accommodation card and at home card. These cards are called enclosures because they are included in the invitation mailing. If you choose an invitation that has matching enclosure cards available, you can have them printed with whatever information you want, but they are most commonly printed as one of the five cards mentioned above. Remember, reception and response cards are the most important. The other three may or may not be necessary. Let’s go through each of the five cards.

Reception Cards
Reception cards invite guests to the celebrations following the ceremony. They include where and when the reception will be and may be printed with additional notes such as whether gifts are being accepted or whether it’s an adult only reception. Envelopes are not necessary for reception cards.

Response Cards
Response cards are necessary to gather an accurate guest count for the wedding. Guests return the cards to you by the date indicated on the card, usually two weeks before the wedding, informing you if they will attend. If you are offering a choice of entrée, include the choices on the card. Response cards include envelopes printed with your return address. Be sure to put a stamp on each response envelope as a courtesy. Quick tip: The return address on response card envelopes should be the address of the person compiling the guest count.

Map/Directions Cards
Map cards allow you to give guests accurate directions to the ceremony and reception locations. Map cards usually include written directions along with the map. You can print directions to the ceremony on the front and directions to the reception on the back if needed.

Accommodation Cards
Accommodation cards are printed with hotel information for out-of-town guests. Some couples will reserve rooms in one or two hotels for their guests and list that information on the card, or you can list area hotels you recommend for your guests. Quick tip: Hotels will often give special group rates if you reserve a large number of hotel rooms early on.

At Home Cards
Inform friends and relatives where you will be living after the wedding and the date you are moving. Envelopes are not necessary.

Note Cards
Note cards are designed to coordinate with your invitations and are great for informal communication with anyone involved in the wedding. Your names or monogram are often printed on the front of the folding card, allowing space inside for notes. Consider these personalization options and uses:

Printed with the bride’s name or monogram, they are perfect before the wedding for…
• informing the wedding party about events and responsibilities
• confirming details with the florist, caterer, photographer, etc.
• writing notes of thanks for shower gifts.

Printed with both of your names or your monogram as a couple, they are useful after the wedding when…
• writing your appreciation for wedding gifts
• sending notes to colleagues, friends and loved ones anytime!

Thank You Notes
Thank you notes are a MUST! They may be a lot of work, but thank yous are the least you can do for your guests’.

Don’t skimp on wedding ceremony essentials. With Ann’s, you can afford EVERYTHING you want!

Down the aisle in style — Ann’s makes it affordable.

Here comes the bride
Make a regal entrance at your ceremony without paying a king’s ransom! Ann’s aisle runners do the job beautifully. Have the aisle runner unrolled right before your flower girl’s entrance so she can scatter petals on the runner for your walk down the aisle.

Flower power
Speaking of your flower girl — she’ll need a place to hold those petals for scattering. Ann’s offers pretty flower baskets in a variety of affordable styles to coordinate with your wedding. We also offer fabric rose petals so you don’t have to splurge on real petals. Our baskets are also perfect for holding floral arrangements as décor accents or centerpieces. For a unique touch, have your bridesmaids each carry a basket filled with flowers instead of a bouquet. It will also make a nice keepsake for them!

The rings, please
Your ring bearer walking down the aisle carrying a pillow will be a memorable sight — so make sure that pillow is beautiful! Ann’s offers very pretty ring pillows at prices you can afford. As for the rings? If your ring bearer is older, go ahead and tie the real rings to the pillow (have an adult hang on to the pillow until right before the walk down the aisle). If the ring bearer is young, tie some faux wedding rings on the pillow and have your best man be in charge of the real ones.

Symbolizing your union
Lighting the unity candle is a wonderful way to symbolize your union. Be sure to choose a candle that’s not only lovely, but one that also coordinates with your wedding look. Ann’s has so many pretty, affordable candles to choose from that you’re sure to find the perfect one. Save costs by using the unity candle as a centerpiece at your head table after the ceremony.

Fun and creative ways to announce the big day!

You only get to do this once, so do it right! Announcing your engagement can be a surprise, low-key, exciting or relaxed. No matter what you do, it's going to be fun!

Here are a few ideas for making the big announcement.

Photo Shuffle – Take a photo of your sweetie kneeling in front of you with arm upraised or of your hand resting on top of his with your wedding ring in clear view. Then hide that photo within a stack of photos and ask friends and family to have a look at your latest vaca or dinner party. Maybe have a camera ready for a snapshot of their reaction.

Chain Mail Junky – Make up a chain e-mail and ask a bunch of ordinary questions until the very end. Then ask "Have you ever been engaged?" and "If so, when?" Of course, your answer will be "Yes" and "Yesterday." Make sure your friends and family will open the e-mail since some people aren't a big fan of chain e-mails.

Good Fortune – Take everyone out for Chinese, but bring your own personalized fortune cookies (just google it, you'll find some). Slyly place them next to everyone's plate, give them to the waitress to hand out or fake like you went to get everyone fortune cookies and use the ones you brought.  The message inside could say "Thanks for eating with the future Mr. and Mrs. Doe," "We're engaged!" or "Two people you know were recently engaged."

Puzzled – Find a website that allows you to create your own word finds or word scrambles and mail them to friends and family. Include a note telling them to "Solve the puzzle for some exciting news!" This is a great idea for shower games also.

A Bunch of Suckers – Get a bunch of ring pops and attach note cards to the rings that say "He popped the question!"

Gifted – Have T-shirts made (or make your own) that say the role each of your friends and family members will have in the wedding: father of the bride, best man, bridesmaid — you get the idea.

For the Girls – Have mini bridal bouquets sent to both of your mothers and each of your bridesmaids with note cards attached asking them to be a part of the big day.
