Do you love the idea of saving money by using your desserts as your wedding favors? We do! We call it double-duty desserts, and we’ve got a few ideas for your wedding.

We’ve created a cookie dessert table, but you can use all kinds of desserts: Grandma’s famous lemon bars, Aunt Milly’s macaroons or cake pops from your local baker. Any dessert or treat that can be individually packaged will make wonderful wedding favors.

Double Duty Favor Cookies

1. Favor bags are an easy way for guests to pack up a dessert and they look very nice displayed on the dessert table. Offer personalized favor labels for guests to seal the bags for a little extra touch of style.

2. We love this idea! Cookies with milk shots as favors. Put milk out in cute pitchers, on ice of course, and let guests pour their own. Or designate someone to pour for guests. We suggest shopping BulkLoad.com or BargainMugs.com for well-priced shot glasses. Check your nearest dollar store, too.

3. Decorative jars filled with cookies and accented with ribbons, favor tags and other adornments create a beautiful presentation at your dessert table. Guests just grab the cookie they want and wrap it up in a favor bag or box. As for jars, we like this deal from SaveonCrafts.com.

4. Clear favor bags show off your delicious treats and coordinate perfectly with your wedding look when accented with personalized favor tags.

5. When one just isn’t enough, large white cake boxes are perfect for fitting a few tasty cookies!

6. Wrap up round cookies like an old-school candy treat! Just roll the cookies in tissue paper and tie with ribbon on each end. They’re super cute and very easy.

Visit us again on Thursday to see how you can make your desserts into reception table centerpieces.

Going on now is our Sweet Sale. You can save on favor bags, boxes, tags and more for your beautiful wedding favors.

I love party themes, so when I was asked to put together a red, white and blue party look for a wedding rehearsal dinner, I was more than happy to do so.

I took lots of shots of the favors, accents and decorations, plus I’ve explained a few of the key elements below, so you can create a truly coordinated look for your own wedding celebration.

Remember that red, white and blue is just an example. You can use these ideas for any theme or color combo.

 Patriotic Party Look

The Food (1,3,9)

All food containers had a splash of color. I like to get creative with how I serve things, for example you can see I lined a tin pail with red metallic paper and filled it with potato chips — simple, but eye-catching. The cookies were decorated to fit the theme and placed on layered cake stands. The colored beverages added nicely to the overall look, too.

The Favors (2,5,6,7,8)

Guests had a range of favors to choose from here, but you could pick just one or two things for your party. White favor boxes are filled with red chocolate hearts and tied with coordinating ribbon. Red favor boxes with clear heart windows show the treats inside, which fit well with the décor. The blue, two-piece favor boxes are also filled with chocolates. Another fun favor idea is giving out personalized matches or notepads in a mix of colors, shown here in a small tin pail. And, of course, every summer celebration needs beverage koozies!

The Decorations (3,4,9)

Our number one goal here was to incorporate red, white and blue into the party decorations, but we also wanted to create a custom look. So we chose a design from Ann’s, which we added to napkins, favors and koozies. This added a wonderful element of personalization that really made an impact.

Personalized napkins are an affordable way to not only add a party essential, but also add color and a personal touch to the overall décor. You’ll also notice how we used ribbon to add colorful accents to otherwise plain items, like the canning jar filled with plasticware. And to top it off, literally, we hung cute paper lanterns from the overhanging tree branches.

Vintage Wedding Theme

Tie your vintage wedding look together, from the invites to décor and everything in between. Unique wedding favors are a fun way to add that vintage touch and a little DIY, too! Start with vintage candies: candy sticks, salt water taffy, wax bottles, candy buttons, etc. Many of these are available in your wedding colors and you can buy online in bulk.

2. A Classic Country Favor

Insert cellophane bags into mason jar drinking glasses. Fill the bags with candy, tie with ribbon and add a cute favor label to the front of the mason jar.

3. Vintage Floral Treat Boxes

Here we filled our small white treat boxes with salt water taffy and embellished with layered floral accents. Crocheted flowers were layered with paper flowers and finished off with colorful buttons. We used glue dots to attach them to the favor boxes. These add-ons would also make pretty corsages for your wedding party or special attendants.

4. Double Duty Centerpiece

For a centerpiece that doubles as a favor, line mint julep silver cups with a vintage hanky and insert rock candy and candy sticks. Tie favor tags to each piece of candy with satin ribbon for simply sweet favors.

5. The Grab Bag

Can’t decide on one candy? Give guests a mix of fun treats in a cellophane bag with your choice of favor labels to add a stylish, personalized touch.

Here’s a fun candy website you should definitely check! Candy.com. Not only is there a plethora of candy to choose from, they’ve also got a great Q&A blog post with Amy Atlas about candy buffets, and they have a super fun video on how salt water taffy is made, just in case you’re curious!

Black and White Classic Candy Buffet

Classic black and white is always an elegant choice, and it just so happens to fit the White Sox theme perfectly. Our party planner, Carynn, put together a simple yet very attractive look by using clear glass vases and bags as well as black and white bags, favor boxes and napkins. A flourish design cut is carried throughout this look as well. See below for product details!

Sapphire and Black Candy Buffet

Since White Sox colors are black, white and blue, Carynn wanted to create a look where the blue really popped, as that is one of the bride and groom’s wedding colors, but remained tasteful and traditional. Blue becomes an eye-catching element of color that really ties everything together, from the napkins to the candies. See below for product details!

Baseball Candy Buffet

This look totally says “Take me out to the ball game!” Wooden crates, fake turf and fake grass create a presentation that can’t be beat. And, of course, classic popcorn bags and cracker jacks are fun treats to offer guests. See below for product details!

Look #1: Classic Black and White

1. Cellophane bags were filled with popcorn and sealed shut with flourish favor labels in ebony. The favor labels are custom printed with “7th inning stretch.” Black satin ribbon was added as the finishing accent. Also shown are clear glass vases of varying sizes and heights filled with a variety of treats and accented with black satin ribbon. Black personalized napkins stacked on top of coordinating white napkins complete the look.

2. White favor bags were personalized with a flourish design, names and wedding date in black foil. Favor bags can be pre-filled or filled by guests.

3. Black favor boxes were personalized with pearl border seals in white featuring just first names. Favor boxes can also be filled ahead of time or set out for guests to fill.

Look #2: Sapphire and Black

1. In this look, the white favor bags are personalized with a single initial, names and wedding date in blue foil and nicely stacked in a white wooden box for simple presentation.

2. Once again, clear glass vases were used to elegantly display a variety of treats. Treats can be scooped by guests into whatever favor boxes, containers or bags the couple chooses.

3. Royal blue wedding napkins are personalized with single initial, names and wedding date in white. The blue napkins give that final pop of color needed to make this buffet table an excellent representation of the White Sox theme.

Look #3: Fun Baseball

1. Carynn used real wooden crates and boxes for presenting cracker jacks and classic popcorn bags. You might find crates at your local hobby store, but also check with your local grocer for any giveaways. Fake turf can be found at home improvement stores. Cracker Jacks are available at most large grocery stores, and classic popcorn bags are often found at party stores or department stores.

2. Clear cellophane bags are filled with homemade trail mix and tied closed with black and white stain ribbon. Carynn also added white, personalized favor cards.

3. Ann’s white treat boxes are shown here with the create-your-own seals in white. The baseball design cut shown is a custom design cut, meaning call us and we’ll work with you if we don’t have the design cut you want!

Come back tomorrow to see what Jake and Ellen have chosen for their buffet table look!

Ellen has seen hundreds of diamonds throughout the seven years she and Jake have been together, but not the kind of diamond that fits on a ring finger. Baseball has been a big part of this couple’s life ever since they started dating back in high school. And even after pursuing different dreams at different colleges, they’ve remained together through it all. Today, Ellen works as a registered nurse and Jake plays for the White Sox minor leagues, but it wasn’t until last year that Jake made the greatest catch of his life and asked Ellen to marry him.

Ellen and Jake

The wedding date is just a few short weeks away on December 17, 2011. Ellen wanted a truly elegant event, but also wanted to incorporate baseball into their wedding. They decided to go with a baseball-themed, candy buffet table for guests to enjoy at the reception.

Here’s where Ann’s comes in! Our party planner, Carynn, has put together three looks for Jake and Ellen. All three looks feature the White Sox baseball theme they wanted but in three unique styles.

Visit us Wednesday to see all three looks. We’ll reveal the winning choice on Thursday!
