If you are looking for an inexpensive way to dress up your wedding, paper lanterns are an excellent idea. A step above balloons but still budget friendly, paper lanterns are a trend that I love to see at wedding receptions and along ceremony aisles.

Wedding Decorations with Paper Lanterns

Pick one color to make a dramatic impact or mix up the colors and add trailing ribbons for a splash of color. Try hanging them at different heights for a stunning visual and use them as a backdrop for your wedding photos or the reception’s photo booth. The lanterns can even be used as centerpieces filled with flowers popping out of the top or with battery-operated tea lights for a beautiful evening glow.

Dress up your ceremony aisle by tying paper lanterns to chairs with satin ribbon in colors that coordinate with your wedding. Paper lanterns can also be used to create a path at outdoor wedding locations or along the driveway.

Bonus! Use them after the wedding. These lanterns make great decorations for showers, birthday parties, anniversaries and other celebrations. Want to see more affordable decorations? Read “Top 5 Cheap Wedding Reception Decorations from Ann’s.”

Normally the words cheap and romantic don’t really go together,
unless you’re shopping Ann’s! At Ann’s Bridal Bargains, the two go
hand-in-hand. That’s why we’re sharing with you…

10 ways to create a romantic wedding on a budget!

Photography by Isabel Lawrence Photography via Get Married

1. Introducing your big day.

Beautiful sweeping hearts, your own favorite verse or elegant flowers are all great ideas for romantic wedding invitations. Decide what romance means to the two of you, and let that be the introduction to your special day.

2. Creating a theme.

Continue your design choice — hearts, flowers, verse — throughout your wedding by featuring it on your ceremony programs, napkins, wedding favors and more.

3. Getting sentimental.

Write your own vows to recite to each other on your wedding day. If you think this sounds cheesy or cliché, wait until everyone at your wedding — including yourselves — are wiping the tears from their eyes.
4. Going classic.

Sprinkle red rose petals along the church aisle or on top of reception tables. Not only are rose petals a classic, romantic touch, they add beautiful color to your wedding décor.

5. The perfect lighting.

Decorate the church or reception with soft candlelight by placing votives
and other candles of various sizes throughout the church or reception.
Place the candles in clear votive holders and vases to create simply elegant
yet inexpensive wedding decorations.

6. A lot of heart!

Add heartfelt décor to the ceremony, such as heart-shaped unity candle
holders
or an entwined hearts aisle runner.

7. A fresh perspective.

Float fresh flowers in glass votive holders or vases for a gorgeous addition to your décor that’s classic, beautiful and oh-so-romantic. They look wonderful placed throughout an intimate church setting or as reception table centerpieces. (Tip: Choose in-season flowers for the best price or ask your florist if they’ll have leftover flowers after creating bouquets and arrangements.)

8. Being unique.

Create your own signature drink to be served at the reception, and give it a name that means something special to the two of you.

9. Something old…

Incorporate the delicate look of lace into your wedding. Lace, when done right, is romantic and very stylish. Play around with lace as a part of your reception table decorations or as accents to bouquets. Lace is especially cute on a flower girl — a lace-accented flower basket will look beautiful in her little hands!

10. Something new…

Revel in every wedding toast made at your wedding with special toasting flutes personalized for the two of you and your wedding day.

We love helping you stay within your budget especially during these economic times. Here are some helpful tips to help save money and stay within your wedding budget.

10. Look to
cosmetology schools or students
for discounted hair and makeup
appointments.

9. Consider an
alternative to the full evening meal.
Cocktail parties, brunches, tea
parties and lunch receptions are all less expensive than a full evening meal —
not to mention the liquor bill will be considerably lower. Don’t forget
personalized wedding napkins — they’re a cheap wedding reception decoration
that adds a lot of style!

8. Try a
potluck
as a fun way to involve guests in the wedding as well as provide an
inexpensive and tasty meal.

7. Use a small
cake for display
and buy a sheet cake to serve your guests. Remember to
find the perfect wedding cake topper and wedding cake server set to complement your beautiful cake.   Photograph: Not A Crumb via GetMarried.com

6. Choose a
white bridesmaid dress instead of a
bridal gown — and don’t feel like you’re compromising style to save a few
dollars. If you find that simply perfect, white, silky smooth, A-line dress on
the bridesmaid rack, who’s judging? No one will ever know.

5. Choose in
season flowers and make your own arrangements.

4. Go online
and look at local boards for sale items or free items.
Chances are your
local area has the resources you need to find a variety of things for super
cheap if not free. Examples: Craig’s List and or state-run campaigns like
Eureka Recycling in Minnesota (http://www.eurekarecycling.org/reuse.cfm).

3. Choose a
date near holidays
like Christmas or Easter since many places will already
be decorated.

2. Have your
wedding in the off-season.

Off-season is between November and April. January through March are good
months, but try to avoid a date near Valentine’s Day because flower prices
increase.

1. Choose any
day but Saturday
. Weekdays, Friday evenings and Sundays are less expensive
than Saturdays. If you do celebrate on a Saturday, try a morning or early
afternoon ceremony.   And always design your wedding to fit your style!  Photograph:  Julia Davis Photography via GetMarried.com.

After
that first kiss as husband and wife, what’s the sweetest part of your wedding?
The wedding cake! Have a cake cutting ceremony you’ll never forget with these
great tips.

Cake cutting

When

• Right before dessert at a
sit-down reception. Closer to the end of a luncheon or cocktail reception.

• Let the kitchen staff
know when you plan to cut the cake so they can remove it right after for
cutting and serving.

•Money-Saver: Choose a
small but beautiful wedding cake for display at your reception. Keep
less-expensive sheet cakes in the kitchen for serving to guests.

Where

• The cake is usually
placed on its own table. Arrange the venue so your cake table is clearly seen.

• Dress the table up with a
nice tablecloth and some decorations (candles, flower petals, confetti, etc.).

• Choose a beautiful knife
and server set
to display next to the cake and to use during the cake cutting
ceremony.

How

• The bride begins by
picking up the cake knife with her right hand and the groom puts his hand over
hers.

• The couple should start
cutting at the base of a tiered cake. Remember to let the caterer know if you
want to save the top tier.

• The couple cuts a small
wedge of cake together. Using the coordinating cake server, the couple will
place the piece of cake on a plate with two forks.

• The groom feeds the bride
the first bite, and she feeds him the second. Afterward, they may share a kiss
and sometimes the couple will cut slices for their parents.

Why

• The cake cutting ceremony
symbolizes the couple’s commitment to share with and support one another.

• Plus, it’s just fun!
